Lisa N. Peterson

Award-winning Writer and Journalist

Born in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Lisa N. Peterson pens historical stories about true crime, dogs, and horses. Early in her journalism career, she worked as a staff reporter covering law enforcement and criminal justice at several Connecticut newspapers. Her work has appeared in USA Today, FoxNews.comConnecticut Magazine, Savingplaces.org, The News-Times, The Newtown Bee, The New Haven Register, The Hour, AKC Gazette, Connecticut Horse Magazine, and AKC Family Dog.

Peterson is a recognized expert for her investigative journalism on the Woodchipper murder case and Regina Brown’s mysterious disappearance in Newtown, Connecticut. She’s appeared on A&E Crime Stories, Investigation Discovery Blood, Lies and Alibis, Murders & Mansions, BBC Science of Crime, and FOX61 Cold Case. She’s been featured in Rhode Island Monthly, The News-Times, The Connecticut Postand The Newtown Bee.

As the communications director and spokesperson at the American Kennel Club in Manhattan for more than a decade, Peterson made regular guest appearances on television and radio, including Good Morning America, Fox & Friends, Today, CBS Evening News, Associated Press, CNN, Martha Stewart Living, and NPR. As an expert on pet theft, presidential pets, and breed trends, she’s been quoted in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and The Washington Post. Peterson’s Norwegian Elkhounds have been featured in Sports Illustrated, New York Dog, and in TV ads.

Peterson is a member of the Author’s Guild, Hudson Valley Writers Center, and the Dog Writer’s Association of America (DWAA). She has judged the Housatonic Book Awards, the Connecticut Press Club Writing Competition, and the DWAA Annual Writing Competition. Peterson received Distinguished Thesis Recognition upon graduation at Western Connecticut State University in the MFA in Creative and Professional Writing program and has taught writing at the Newtown Senior Center. Peterson is a lifelong equestrian, a dog show judge, and lives in Newtown, Connecticut.
